CLINICAL SUPERVISION

Clinical supervision is a professional obligation for professionals who engage in psychotherapy or social work practice in order to practice ethically and competently.  A growing number of organizations in Ontario (especially within the current landscape of creating large amalgamated and consolidated community based organizations) no longer provide clinical supervision of direct practice through a direct manager.  Supervision in these settings is often focused on administrative tasks (such as, record keeping, accreditation, mandate, caseload, organizational policies) and NOT clinically complex issues associated with assessment, intervention, evaluation of client interventions, and most importantly, critical self-reflection, which must accompany psychotherapy or social work practice. Moreover,  clinical professionals may not be provided with supervision by a member of their profession in these settings, and as such, this creates extra cognitive labour to assess the direct supervisor's relevant expertise, experience, and understanding of social work values, ethics and standards of practice. The members of The Clinical Collective can provide you with clinical supervision opportunities.  Please connect with the available member directly for more information.

Please be aware that the clinician's ability to provide services is limited to specific regions. This website is not a crisis service and is not intended to assist in emergencies. If you are experiencing an immediate crisis or emergency, do not contact us. Instead, please reach out to your local emergency services or contact your local child welfare or Indigenous child and family well-being organization for urgent support.
